Porsche 986 Boxster S (2002)
£5,795
SoldA great looking, usable 986 Boxster S with no major mechanical issues and low mileage at 67,661 miles.
This nice original 986 Boxster S came to us in part exchange for one of our cars – it has had just two owners from new, the first owner keeping his Boxster for 13 years, and a comprehensive service history from new to 2015, with 13 service stamps showing in the record – 7 from Porsche, 6 from specialists.
Although EA51 HBD is in good overall condition and drives really nicely, there are a few minor issues which need addressing (air conditioning, rear window, front lower suspension arms), and a few areas where we would have to improve the car to bring it up to our “showroom” standard (wheel refurbishment, tyres, bodywork and paint). To carry out all the work required to our standards is not economically viable, so the car is offered for sale at a sensible price, with a few known faults, and requiring a service and brake fluid change.
Finished in Arctic Silver, the paintwork is in very good condition, with just a couple of very small scratches and a small ding to the rear bumper. The plastic rear window in the hood is split along the seam and needs repair or replacement.
The Metropole blue leather interior, carpets and dash are all in excellent condition, and the specification includes PSM Porsche Stability Management. The air conditioning is not working, however the condensers have been replaced recently (2016 – invoice on file) so the issue is probably a leak at a pipe union.
A few issues require attention along with a service: the front lower suspension “coffin” arms are creaking, the driver’s side window doesn’t drop quite enough when opening the door (probably a stretched regulator cable), and the exhaust clamps have corroded bolts.
The 252bhp 3.2 litre flat-six engine fires immediately and idles cleanly. The clutch is light and the gearchange feels positive and precise as you move through the six-speed gearbox. On the road, the performance is excellent, the engine pulls smoothly through the rev range, and the brakes are powerful and progressive. All electrics work as they should, with the exception of the air conditioning.
EA51 HBD is fitted with upgraded 18” Sport Design split-rim alloy wheels, all four of which would benefit from cosmetic refurbishment. Tyres are Falken all round, and could do with replacement soon as they are worn on the inner edges – the car was fitted with wheel spacers which probably caused this – these have now been removed.
The service history for the car is very good, with a large number of service invoices, every MOT certificate, and 13 service stamps in the book, as follows:
