Porsche 911 GT3 - 996.2 Clubsport (2004)

£54,500

NR04WLW is a rare factory 996.2 GT3 Clubsport (no absolute figures but assumed to be around 70 sold in the UK), presented in Basalt Black metallic with black interior, including Nomex cloth Recaro race seats. The no-cost M003 Clubsport option included the Recaro seats, rear roll cage, 6 point harnesses, a fire extinguisher and preparation for an electrical cut out on the scuttle panel. Basically quite a lot of what went into the GT3 RS, minus the carbon panels, polycarbonate windows and single mass flywheel.

In 2009 at approximately 20,000 miles, the car was involved in an accident on the road, causing damage to the nearside front corner of the car (bumper, headlight, AC condenser, coolant radiator, front wing, front suspension, wheel and brake disc). Pictures of the car post-accident are included in the gallery. Due mainly to the damage to the nearside front PCCB disc and the cost of replacement of both front discs and pads (approx. £10k in parts alone!), the car was registered as a Cat D, sold by the insurance company and subsequently repaired. It is believed that the PCCB discs were replaced with steel discs at this time. The car was then serviced and had suspension work carried out by Paragon Porsche in 2013 at c.26,000 miles, and a PPI and sales preparation at JZM in November 2015 at 27,000 miles. In 2016 at c.27,500 miles the suspension was upgraded with the fitment of Ohlins Road and Track dampers and springs, and a Supersprint stainless exhaust system fitted. The car also has an Alcantara covered steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever, and some carbon effect trim to the interior.

I purchased NR04WLW in June 2022 at 44,000 miles, and have since undertaken a programme of refurbishment and preventative maintenance, including the fitting of a full set of Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes to return the car to its original factory specification. The PCCB discs and pads came from a 2008 997.1 911, and despite that car’s 60,000 miles, the discs show negligible wear and no damage or cracks. Pictures showing the current disc thicknesses are included in the gallery. The brake pads were new in 2020. Braking performance is now phenomenal, with fantastic pedal feel, powerful retardation and no fade or brake dust!

Other work over the past 2 years in my ownership includes:

  • complete refurbishment of the cooling system with 3 new radiators, coolant hoses, clips and water pump
  • removal, cleaning and re-fitting of the entire suspension with all new fixings, powder coating the anti-roll bars, having bespoke springs manufactured (250 lb/in front, 500 lb/in rear – when I bought the car it had 400 lb/in front and 800 lb/in rear springs fitted, which meant virtually no suspension travel at all!), four wheel alignment to correct factory settings
  • new gear cables and a 997 shifter fitted (shorter, more precise throw)
  • centre console delete kit fitted (centre console parts retained)
  • new AC condensers, low pressure sill pipe and ‘o’ rings to refurbish the AC system
  • refurbished both sets of 18” 996.2 GT3 wheels, one set silver, one set in Weissgold
  • new set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on silver wheels for road use
  • new Bosch battery Dec 2024
  • O2 sensors in exhaust replaced, new exhaust bumper heatshield fitted
  • front and rear bumper and both side skirts removed and repainted to remove stone chips in late 2022. There are now a few stone chips re-appearing on the lower part of the front bumper, and the odd one on the bonnet

At the asking price, the car also comes with the following parts:

  • Front section of racing safety cage
  • Spare set of 996.2 GT3 18” wheels painted Weissgold & fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres (rears dated 2014 5mm, fronts dated 2022 5mm)
  • Full 997 Cup stainless exhaust system by HJS Motorsport (manifolds, cat pipes and centre exit silencer)
  • 996 Carbon roof panel
  • New front splitter (not fitted to car)

These Gen 2 996 GT3 models are the first cars produced under the leadership of Andreas Preuninger, and known to be significantly improved in most respects over the Gen 1 cars, with more power (the stated 381bhp was very conservative, most of them were making 395-400bhp according to Mr Preuninger), improved suspension and more powerful brakes, especially when fitted with PCCB.

I have used and enjoyed the car on European road trips (Le Mans 24H, Nurburgring and Spa) and have also done a couple of track days (Donington, Bedford Autodrome) over the last 2 years, but have decided to replace it with a more dedicated track day car (Lotus S1 Elise) and a convertible (981 Boxster S) for touring and holidays. To be honest, my wife was never that big a fan of the GT3 for long road trips (…although the Recaro seats are about the most comfortable fixed backrest seats ever!).

The car drives superbly, the adjustable Ohlins dampers allowing a really compliant setup for road use and the ability to stiffen the car in a few minutes with a few clicks of the compression/rebound adjusters. The front adjusters are at the base of the damper, so can be done with wheels on full lock very easily, the rear adjusters are on the top of the damper so we made a small modification to the rear carpet and added some subtle extenders to allow adjustment without removal of the carpet.

A rare opportunity to acquire a very well sorted 996.2 GT3 Clubsport in a great specification, at a significant discount due to the Cat D marker from 2009. The car has benefited from a well considered programme of works over the past couple of years, and delivers a thrilling driving experience on road or track.

Please call Sean on 07595 455568 for more information or to arrange to come and see the car. I use Durametric software for diagnostics and am happy to share rev range data with interested parties. There are no over revs in Range 2. This is my personal car and not part of Flat Six Classics.
