Here we have another super low mileage early Boxster S, this time with just 29,770 miles in the hands of just two owners from new, the second of whom bought his Boxster in January 2004. He used it sparingly as a “high days and holidays” car, adding about 1,000 miles a year.

X918EAB is in amazing original condition throughout, the Arctic Silver paintwork all original aside from the front bumper which was repainted to remove stone chips some time ago. The Metropole Blue extended leather interior is virtually unmarked, and showing no wear at all to the seats, carpets and interior fittings. The matching blue hood is also in near perfect condition, as is the original plastic rear window, which retains a clarity and suppleness that is extremely rare after 20 years (and only ever found in cars that have been garaged every night). The underside of the car is also in exceptional condition, with clean brake lines, no corrosion to fittings, or damage to any of the underbody plastics.

The options specified by the original owner are sparing but well chosen – extended leather to dashboard and door panels, Litronic xenon headlights with washers, 18″ 993 Turbo look alloy wheels, climate control, and the “normal” UK spec car options of top tinted windscreen, wind deflector, storage box on engine cover and on board computer.

The service history is all Porsche main dealer up to April 2010, when the car had a Major service, spark plugs and brake fluid change at Porsche Centre Bristol, with the mileage at 24,485. Since then, the car has only covered just over 5,000 miles. We will prepare the car with a Major service, spark plugs, auxiliary drive belt, brake fluid change, new AC condensers and a new set of tyres.

The history file contains every piece of paperwork the car has ever had, including the original purchase invoice, all service invoices and every MOT certificate from January 2004 onwards. The MOT history is exceptional, with just a couple of advisories for tyre tread depth and one failure in 2010 for a cut in a rear tyre. Since then not a single advisory, which is quite remarkable in itself.

On the road, X918EAB feels taut and responsive, with supple suspension, strong performance and a precision to all the controls that belies the age of the car. We are lucky here at Flat Six Classics to get to experience quite a few low mileage, low owner 986 Boxsters, and this one is right up there in terms of freshness and feel. Its a bit of a cliche, but it does genuinely feel more like a 2-3 year old car than one closing in on 21!
