The first generation 987 Cayman is a staggeringly good all round sports car, with one of the finest handling chassis combined with great performance, superb build quality and a surprising level of day-to-day practicality. The only issue they face is that the 3.4 engined S models can suffer from bore scoring, which can eventually necessitate an expensive engine rebuild. The result of this is that values of 987.1 Caymans are far lower than their 987.2 “Gen 2″ counterparts, which can mean excellent value IF the 987.1 Cayman you’re looking at has no bore scoring. So when we buy 987.1 era Caymans and Boxsters with the 3.4 S engine, we carry out a bore scope inspection ourselves, and share the results (with pictures) with our customers. GK06CVE has had a bore scope inspection on 13.2.24, and is completely clear of any scoring in any of the cylinders.

Presented in classic Arctic Silver with black leather interior, GK06CVE has had just 3 owners from new, and has covered 71,118 miles over the last 18 years, which is just under 4,000 miles per year on average. The car was purchased new by a Mr Griffiths in May 2006 from Porsche Centre Mayfair (…very fancy!) and he really went to town on the options list, specifying his Cayman with a huge selection of factory fitted extras, including: Extended leather, 16-way adaptive sports seats with driver memory (heated, of course), 19” SportDesign wheels, Xenon headlights with washer function, auto dimming mirrors, rain sensing wipers, Sport Chrono Plus with silver faced stopwatch, PCM2 Porsche Communication Management with BOSE sound system and CD changer, rear parking sensors, short shifter, leather edged carpet mats and a thicker steering wheel rim. The car has also had cruise control retro-fitted using the Porsche approved kit.

Mr Griffiths kept the car for c.8 years, before selling to the second owner, who owned it for a further 4 years before it was sold by RPM Specialist Cars to the most recent keeper in December 2018. The service history is excellent, with the following history recorded in the service book:

The history file contains a large number of maintenance invoices from 2018 to date, covering all the key maintenance items one would expect on a Cayman of this age: coolant hoses and crossover pipes, front shock absorbers, top mounts, tuning forks, brake discs and pads, clutch, flywheel and RMS, brake lines and gearbox oil change. In addition, in September 2021, the exhaust was replaced with a Dansk stainless steel sports system, which sounds fantastic – not too loud though!

Late last year, the car was also treated to a front end repaint, to eliminate the inevitable stone chips to the bumper and bonnet, and also the vulnerable areas at the trailing edge of the front wheelarches where they meet the sills. The paintwork on the car is now almost flawless. The wheels were refurbished at the same time, and the car is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

We have prepared the car for sale with an oil service, new rear brake discs and pads, new handbrake shoes and pressure springs, new AC condensers and a recharge of the system. We have also carried out a bore scope inspection and can report that GK06CVE has no scoring in any of the cylinders.

The car drives superbly, with great performance, a light clutch and snappy gearchanges from the factory short shift, beautifully accurate steering and powerful brakes.
